World Teachers’ Day is celebrated around the world on 5 October to honour and appreciate teachers for their invaluable contribution to the growth and transformation of society.
This year’s UNESCO theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” serves as a reminder that advancing the status of the teaching profession is an ongoing endeavour, one that we should never tire of. It is equally important to continually remind society of the vital role teachers play in the development of our children and, ultimately, the development of our country.
Today, we celebrate and salute all teachers. May you remember on this day, and every day throughout the year, that you are valued and that your contribution to society extends far beyond the classroom. More than any monetary reward, your legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of the professionals you have educated, inspired and empowered, individuals who go on to shape communities and change the course of history.
Success is inseparable from the role of the teacher, for the future of our country rests in the hands of educated, empowered and inspired minds.
To all our teachers, thank you for your tireless efforts and unwavering commitment. Your work does not go unnoticed, and your contribution to our society is immeasurable.
The work of the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) seeks to promote the well-being of teachers and, in turn, contribute to improving the quality of education in public schools. We therefore remain passionate about celebrating teachers and recognising their invaluable contribution to society.
Happy World Teachers’ Day!
Issued by the General Secretary on behalf of the Executive Committee of the ELRC.
