World Teachers’ Day is celebrated worldwide on 5th October to honour and appreciate teachers for their valuable contribution to societal growth and transformation.
The theme of World Teachers’ Day 2024 is: “The Valuing teacher voices: Towards a new social contract for education.”
This year’s celebrations accentuates the pivotal role that teachers play in shaping the future of education and the urgent need to incorporate their perspectives into educational policy and decision-making processes.
One programme of Council that has a central focus on the inclusion of all voices in decision-making processes, including that of the teacher, is the Labour Management Partnership Programme.
The Labour Management Partnership Programme for South Africa’s basic education sector seeks to enhance the established rapport between stakeholders and expand established pockets of excellence to improve learner performance, through harmonising the workplace. The Programme also aims to restore the integrity of the teaching profession in the country.
While we all play a part in ensuring the teaching profession remains a respected one, today we celebrate the unsung heroes in our classrooms and wholeheartedly thank them for their dedication to their vocation.
We salute all teachers today; may you remember on this day and every day throughout the year that you are valued and your contribution to society transcends the classroom. More than monetary reward, your legacy is firmly entrenched in the hearts of educated professionals who go on to change the course of history.
The Council remains passionate about celebrating teachers and their immeasurable contribution to society.
